What is Project Arachnid?

Project Arachnid is a groundbreaking initiative by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection aimed at combatting the distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the internet. It employs advanced technology to detect and remove instances of this harmful content from the web.

Using a system of web-crawling technology, Project Arachnid identifies and flags images and videos of child sexual abuse, which are then reported to internet service providers and hosting companies for removal. This proactive approach helps in minimizing the circulation of such material online, thereby reducing the re-victimization of the children involved.

It's an important tool in the ongoing efforts to protect children and prevent the proliferation of abusive content on the internet.

As of January 2024, Project Arachnid has analyzed 70 million+ suspect media files.
